Frequently Asked Questions
Answers to the most common questions from importers, exporters, and first-time trade businesses.
What documents do I need for customs clearance of an import shipment?
The key documents required for customs clearance of an import shipment typically include: (1) Bill of Lading or Airway Bill, (2) Commercial Invoice, (3) Packing List, (4) Import Export Code (IEC) certificate, (5) Insurance Certificate, (6) Certificate of Origin (if applicable), and (7) any product-specific licences or permits (e.g., BIS certificate for electronics, CDSCO approval for pharma). The exact requirements vary by product type and origin country. Our team will guide you through the specific documentation checklist for your shipment.
Which ports and ICDs do you operate in?
Natraja Enterprises operates across 11 major ports, Inland Container Depots (ICDs), and international airports in India: Nhava Sheva (Mumbai), Mundra (Gujarat), Kandla (Gujarat), Tughlakabad ICD (Delhi), IGI Airport (New Delhi), ICD Patparganj, ICD Sonepat, ICD Jattipur, ICD Patli, ICD Faridabad, and ICD Piyala. If you need clearance at a port not listed, please contact us — we may be able to accommodate through our partner network.
Do you handle air freight in addition to sea freight?
Yes, Natraja Enterprises handles both air and sea freight. For air freight, we manage shipments through IGI Airport in New Delhi — offering both express and standard air freight services for import and export. For sea freight, we handle FCL, LCL, and break-bulk cargo through Nhava Sheva, Mundra, and Kandla ports. We also facilitate overland / road transport across India for domestic legs of international shipments.
How long does customs clearance typically take?
Customs clearance timelines in India depend on factors such as the port of entry, type of cargo, accuracy of documentation, and the customs assessment channel assigned (Green/Yellow/Red Channel). With complete and accurate documentation, routine shipments typically clear in 1–3 business days under the Green Channel. Yellow Channel may require 3–5 days, and Red Channel (requiring physical examination) can take 5–10 days. Our team works proactively to ensure your documentation is complete and accurate to minimize delays.
Can you assist with IEC registration for a new import-export business?
Yes, we provide full support for IEC (Import Export Code) registration through the DGFT portal. IEC is a mandatory 10-digit code required for any business engaged in international trade in India. Beyond IEC, we also assist with ICEGATE registration, AD Code registration with your bank, GST registration, and other trade-related registrations. If you're setting up an import-export business for the first time, our consultancy team can guide you through the entire setup process.
